The position is offered at the earliest possible date and will be a fixed-term contract for 2 years, with the option to be extended.
The research position is located in the field of visualization, analysis, registration and fusion of two-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) image data acquired during the process of additive manufac-turing. The research will be done in collaborations with two research groups from the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM), who develop and optimize additive manufacturing methods. To allow a detailed investigation of the process of additive manufacturing, several image acquisition techniques are applied to the same object in order to generate images with different resolutions and modalities. The main goal of the project is the development of techniques and tools that enable a combined visualization and analysis of all acquired data. In particular, it shall be investigated which methods are specifically suited to automatically monitor the process of additive manufacturing to ensure high quality products. Software development of prototypes will be carried out in the visualization and analysis soft-ware Amira.
master’s degree in computer science, mathematics or physics
a very strong background in computer visualization and computer graphics, particularly in the
field of volume rendering
knowledge in image segmentation and feature extraction
good background of linear algebra and computer-aided geometry processing
experience in software development with C++ and the version control system git
strong interest in interdisciplinary research as well as good communication skills
good command of written and spoken English
